Mum and her seven dwarfs
On the night of the 26th of February, the team where called on a mother cat and her 7 babies, part of a huge intake from one house that evening.
Our total Intake at that time included:
Mum and 7 x 2 day old kittens - fleas and balding skin
Mum and 3 x 4 week old kittens - poorly eyes
Mum and 6 x 6 week old kittens - possible cat flu
2 x 13 week old kittens - full of fleas and worms
1 x pregnant - due any day
Uncertain, and with no room and critically short of food, litter and funds for their care, we had to make the horrible decision to leave them behind, knowing they were so so sick.
Luckily, thanks to our friends at the Heathside Veterinary Surgery, their team back to collect them and take them straight in for urgent care. It was so humbling to see the Cat Welfare team come together and we are so thankful for all of their help.
One day in…
Thanks to the help of the team at Heathside, the mum and kittens were on the mend. Mum is much less itchy and seems to be eating well. She smells like a drain but, she’s doing a wonderful job with her babies, who are all a bit small but hopefully with the best food in mum, she can do what she needs to!
Our total intake had now grown to a massive: 18 kittens, 3 feeding mums and 1 pregnant

As you can probably imagine, this was an extremely trying time for the Cat Welfare team.
Day two…
And...breathe.
After an exhausting, emotional but humbling 24 hours with mum and her babies, it’s time to catch our breath.
Little one has had a crusty eye, which needed gentle bathing to try to release the gunk. I wasn’t expecting what came out of her eye when I finally released it. Poor baby.
Mum is sat on my lap as I type this, slightly less smelly, definitely less itchy and so much happier.
Day five…
3 babies say “hello mumma Lorri!”
One week later…
What a difference in just a few days! The two smallest babies, who have sore eyes, have put on weight over night and their eyes and are brighter than ever.
Mum is starting to get a bit of weight on her, eating brilliantly and is doing a wonderful job of feeding 7 demanding little sausages.
As of today (April 15th 2020) the babies are still in our care and are developing by the day. EVERY penny raised goes toward cat care and rehoming. It's only thanks to YOU and YOUR support that we are up and running, caring for animals who need us, just like momma and her babies.
