Our plan yesterday was to take the night off, clean the pen, and breathe a little after our last batch of little ones were adopted out earlier that day.

That all changed when the phone went at 6pm and I spoke to one of our volunteers, Sara Joanne Harrison. Her elderly parents have had a mum and 4 kittens in their garden for the last 6 weeks and all calls to other rescues were fruitless. Could we help? Of course we could. 

Our Cat Welfare Group superheroes quickly swung into action. 

Mum was caught straight away, and she is such a wholesome sweetheart. Then the first kitten was caught and brought to us at midnight, he was much older than expected and one full fat feral. Terrified and vertical wall scaling feral.

Second kitten arrived first thing the next morning and we were confident that we could get the older two later that day. 

Later that day, we managed to catch Polly (Black kitten on the far left in the picture above), which just left the final feral Ada (Tabby and White kitten next to Polly in the above picture), who had spent the last 3 days out on her own.

We wouldn’t give up and the team we’re out around clock, all through the night to make sure that we got her. She was proving very difficult to get, despite her ever increasing hunger. The day before we recorded Mumma Grace chatting and calling to the kittens, with them crying back, which we played near her hiding place and trap. Bingo! It worked. Finally, a family back together again in the safe and warm.

With the family now back together, there was one tiny issue, we now have got a horrible feeling that Mumma Grace (see picture below) is already pregnant again 😢 So she’s off to see Uncle Tris at the fantastic Heathside.

Over the past few days the feral kittens have been slowly bonding with the CWG team. Finding out what human love and good grub really is like. It is a gradual process, and we have to remain patient, but with some possible new babies on the way, the team will now have to find even more room for some new additions (we currently already have 24 kittens in our care total!!)
